Why what you eat
changes your biology

Nutrition does not work like a point system where "good" cancels "bad." It works as continuous cellular signaling. Every meal activates genes, regulates hormones, modifies the microbiome, and determines the level of systemic inflammation for the next several hours.

The modern diet, ultra-processed and high in added sugars, generates chronic low-grade inflammation that silently damages tissues for years before symptoms appear. The vast majority of chronic diseases share this inflammation as a common denominator.

The Kaizen approach to nutrition does not start from a dietary dogma. It starts from physiology: what does your body actually need to function well, reduce inflammation, and age with health? The answer is not complicated. But it does require returning to basics with intention.

Restrictive diets have very high dropout rates. The Kaizen goal is to build an eating pattern that reduces inflammation, that you enjoy, and that you can sustain for decades. Consistency always beats perfection.

You do not have to change everything at once. These four habits have the highest return on investment in terms of impact on inflammation, glucose, and overall wellbeing.

Prioritize real food
If it has more than 5 ingredients and you do not recognize one of them, it probably is not food. The foundation of anti-inflammatory nutrition is simple: foods that existed before factories existed.

Eat protein at every meal
Eggs, fish, lean meats, legumes. Protein stabilizes blood sugar, reduces appetite, and protects muscle. It is the most undervalued macronutrient in the modern diet.

Reduce added sugar
Not all carbohydrates are equal. Added sugar and refined carbs cause glucose spikes that over time damage insulin sensitivity. Reducing them is one of the highest-impact changes in the short term.

Include quality fats
Olive oil, avocado, nuts, fatty fish. Healthy fats are anti-inflammatory and essential for hormonal and brain function. The fear of fat was one of the most costly nutritional mistakes of the 20th century.
